1 Ordinary Office - Jasper County 2 3 [pg 229] 4 5 In the name of God amen. 6 I Thomas Moffett of the state of 7 Georgia and County of Jasper being 8 in health of body and mind but 9 calling to remembrance that it 10 is appointed once for all men 11 to die do make and ordain this 12 my last will and testament 13 In the manner and form following 14 hereby revokin all other. 15 First of all I give my soul to God 16 who gave it and my body to be 17 buried in a Christian like manner 18 at the discretion of my executors 19 nothing doubting but that it will 20 be raised at the resurection & 21 as to the property wherewith it has 22 pleased God to bless me with I 23 dispose of in the following man 24 -ner. Item 1st I bind unto my 25 beloved wife Abigail Moffett in 26 case she should survive me one 27 negro woman named Patt and 28 one bed and furniture during 29 her natural life or widowhood 30 and that she be maintained 31 by my three sons James Nathan 32 and Jacob Moffett 33 34 [next page] 35 36 and that she have her choice to live 37 with which of my sons she chooses. 38 Item 2 I give and bequeath unto 39 my son James Moffett all that 40 Lot of land number one Hundred 41 and thirty nine in the thirteenth 42 district formerly Baldwin now 43 Jasper county which lies south west 44 of a line which runs as follows 45 beginning at a post oak corner on 46 a line on a line which runs as follows 47 between said lot and lot number one 48 Hundred and forty running a 49 marked line to a black oak from there 50 to a Hickory thence to a white oak 51 near the head of a branch thence down 52 the meanders of a branch to where it 53 crosses the line between said lot and 54 lot number one Hundred and 55 thirty Eight. The words "but" and "raised" may be wrong. The repetition in line 46 has been crossed out on the original. In lines 75 and 76 the sons were not written (presumably by the recorder) correctly. There was not a son named Thomas, but there were two sons (mentioned elsewhere in the will) named James and Jacob. Margaret (Peggy) was the wife of Nathan JACKSON. Jane (Jencey) was the wife of David HUNTER, and Elizabeth (Betsey) was the wife of Elijah BOYINGTON.
